Angie Athanassiades grew up in Athens, Greece, where she teaches English Literature and Creative Writing. She has a BA in English and Politics from the University of York and an MA in Life Writing from the University of East Anglia. Her essay “Boats Against the Current” which was published as part of the MA Anthology Cheque Enclosed received a favourable review in the Times Literary Supplement, while a revised version published by Serving House Journal was nominated for the Best of the Net award in 2016. Her essays “Lela’s Bones,” “Rosemary for Remembrance,” and “The Antikythera Shipwreck,” which was nominated for the Pushcart Prize, have been published by KYSO Flash.
When she is not writing, she enjoys reading, walking with her dog and spending time on the remote island of Antikythera watching migrating birds and gathering twigs, bones and feathers.
Her memoir, I am Twig, Bone, Feather, exploring sexual trauma and how turning to nature and art can help us heal, will be published in 2026 by Vine Leaves Press.
